Manson scores double on Lake Karapiro

Tue 16 Dec 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Recently-out rower Robbie Manson powered to both the premier single and double sculls titles at Lake Karapiro’s Christmas regatta over the weekend. He beat defending Olympic champion Mahe Drysdale in the single sculls, while he and Chris Harris took out the double sculls. Manson came out to the world via Outsports just over a month ago, explaining he’d told most of his teammates around the time of the 2012 Olympics. “Much to my surprise, everyone was fine with it. I didn't have a single bad reaction, and most people were demonstrably supportive.” Lately, he’s been racing with younger brother Karl on the international stage. While they didn’t grab any medals this year, the siblings are in contention for an Olympic spot.
