Decision to be made on rally in morning

Sat 13 Dec 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

A decision will be made tomorrow morning on whether an Auckland rally against homophobia will go ahead, with a severe weather warning in place. Heavy rain is forecast for northern parts of New Zealand, including Auckland, on Sunday. Organiser of the “love thy neighbour” rally against homophobia in a West Auckland park, Karis Vesey, has tried to find an indoor alternative venue, but all have been booked out. “Early tomorrow morning I will make the call on whether to continue the rally,” she says. This information will be available on the event's Facebook page and on GayNZ.com. Vesey says if the weather gets in the way, she plans to meet up with all those she had lined up to speak and film their statements, which will then be posted online. “That way, everyone still gets to hear what was going to be said tomorrow, and no one can say that God sent the rain to keep all of us at home.” She explains she would have planned a rain date, but is about to head overseas for a month. “Please check the page in the morning before you come - fingers cross it fines up," she says. The rally was organised in response to the email tirade of ‘pastor' Logan Robertson from Westcity Bible Baptist Church to writer Jim Marjoram, praying that he would commit suicide and calling him a "filthy child molesting fag". It's being held at a park near the home from which Robertson runs his small church. Love Thy Neighbour (Rally Against Homophobia) Fitzherbert Avenue side of Saint Margarets Park, West Harbour, Auckland. Sunday 14 December, from 10AM. If cancelled, info will be here (and we will let you know).
