Auckland lawyer elected new NZAF Chair

Wed 26 Nov 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

David Friar is a partner at Bell Gully Lawyer David Friar has been elected Chair of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s Board. He takes over from local body politician Simon Randall who has stood down after two years as a Trustee, the final year as Chair. Friar has served on the Board since 2012, and been involved in the lgbt community for the past 15 years, including the civil union and marriage equality campaigns. The Bell Gully partner lives in Auckland with his partner Barrie and their four-year old son. “NZAF is fortunate to have a talented team of staff, volunteers and members, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to NZAF’s work in HIV prevention, support and advocacy,” Friar says. “We also face challenges ahead. It is critical that we continue to engage with the community, make sure that our message is heard, and that we are responsive to new scientific developments.” Candidates Dr Massimo Giola and Michael Moore were also elected to the Board at the AGM on Saturday, while Deputy Chair Andrew Sweet was re-elected to the position for another 12 months. NZAF Executive Director Shaun Robinson says Simon Randall's contribution over the last two years has added rigour and a cool head to the organisation’s work. “Equally I look forward to working with David Friar whose intelligence and commitment have been seen over his many years’ contribution to the LGBT community."
