The New Zealand AIDS Foundation has come up with a light-hearted twist on the traditional meatpack raffle to raise money, and awareness about HIV and sexual health, in the lead-up to World AIDS Day. Guys are posting pictures of their ‘meatpack’ on social media, in the form of shots of them in their undies. They are including the hashtag “#meatpack”, with a sign that says "I'm raffling my #meatpack 4 HIV awareness. Donate @ meatpack.org.nz" The #meatpack which raises the most donations will in turn win a prize pack from Love Your Condom. Here are some of the entries so far: See more at Love Your Condom’s Facebook page and through looking up #meatpack on Twitter The New Zealand AIDS Foundation says the campaign has been developed to encourage gay and bi men to talk more openly about HIV and sexual health in the lead up to World AIDS Day on 1 December. It points out that of the 180 New Zealanders diagnosed with HIV last year, 80 per cent were gay or bi men. The NZAF says that’s still far too many so it’s important that as a community we continue to talk about HIV in order to bring this number down. “By talking to our friends and loved ones about getting tested and using condoms we continue to build resiliency against HIV and other STIs. When we don’t talk about these things, perhaps because we find it uncomfortable, we unwittingly feed into stigma and shame that can lead to inaction,” says the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s Communications
