Eight men have been jailed for three years in Egypt for being part of a YouTube video which authorities say shows a same-sex wedding. Al-Jazeera says the men were charged with “violating public decency.” It’s reported they forced to go through abusive and unscientific medical examinations to determine whether or not they had engaged in any sexual activity. Human Rights Campaign’s Global Director Ty Cobb says the prison sentences build on the recent crackdown by the Egyptian government on men suspected of being gay. “Around the world human rights advocates must shine a spotlight on the resurgence of human rights abuses targeting gay men in Egypt.”
