Rainbow Wellington is organising drinks for 7 November as a chance to express thanks to former Labour MP Maryan Street. Due to Labour’s low party vote at the Election, the openly-lesbian MP has not made it back to Parliament, after nine years’ service. Street is a Rainbow Wellington patron and the group says it wants to express its sorrow and dismay that she will not be back in Parliament. “We believe that the party, Parliament and the country will be the poorer now that Maryan hasn't returned to Parliament,” it says. “Over the years Maryan has proved to be one of the most consistent and vigorous supporters and Vice-Patrons of Rainbow Wellington. Her latest contribution was of course to represent Labour at our recent Election Candidates’ Forum. “Maryan's presence will clearly be sorely missed, especially in the area of international human rights, where she has helped us on a number of occasions, especially when Murray McCully clearly did not want to answer our letters.” The event will be held at S
