Gavin Sloane Hamilton gay sauna owner Gavin Sloane has been confirmed as the man who died at his central city GuyZ venue late on Saturday night. Sloane, 67, who had been on duty behind the counter of his sauna, suffered a heart attack at 11.30pm and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Paying tribute to his friend this evening, Keith Crump says Sloane spent most of his adult years in Wellington, driving taxis amongst other roles. "In the late 1990s he moved to Hamilton and after a successful tenure owning a large motel in central Hamilton he decided the city needed a good men’s space. With a group of supportive friends he set up GuyZ sauna which lifted the bar for male-friendly spaces in the Waikato." "Gavin always had a friendly smile for customers, offering both contented and disappointed his hallmark lollipop on departing after an evening spent at his clean, and well appointed facility," says Crump. "His close friends and the Waikato community have lost a great mate, friend and supportive member of their community." A funeral service for Sloane will be held at 1.30pm this Saturday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the corner of Clyde and Grey Streets, Hamilton. GuyZ remains closed for the time being but is likely to re-open in approximately a fortnight.
