The Auckland Lesbian Business Association (ALBA) will discuss its future at its AGM tonight. The invitation for the gathering says “the elephant in the room” is that if there “isn't the goodwill or energy to form a functioning committee” then ALBA will have very little choice but to disband and or merge with the Gay Auckland Business Association (GABA). GABA has successfully made a concerted effort to increase its female representation in recent years and currently has its second-ever woman President in Heather Carnegie. ALBA says it needs to increase its committee to at least eight people to function. “Unless we have an increase in Committee members to at least eight people having a speaker monthly is not a viable option,” the AGM invite says. The other issue which will be discussed is membership fees, with the first option keeping the status quo of charging $65 for singles and $120 for couples, and $5 for non-members attending meetings. The second option is to have a $45 flat rate for membership and charge non-members $10 to attend meetings. All are welcome to attend the AGM, which is free, at Garnet Station Studio from 6PM.
