Final results confirm Street's departure

Final Election results have confirmed lesbian Labour MP Maryan Street will not return to Parliament. Street says it’s a small consolation that her final electorate count was the highest ever for a Labour candidate in Nelson since MMP began, and makes it clear she campaigned for the party vote in the electorate. “My team worked especially hard to turn out the party vote. I am grateful to every one of them,” she says in a Facebook post. “We had record numbers of hoarding sites and three times the targets to turn out on the day compared with previous elections.” A small bump in party vote means Labour colleague Andrew Little is secured a return. The Green Party has secured another MP, Steffan Browning, while National loses a list MP. It means National now has 60 seats and loses its outright majority The final count shows Auckland Central was the closest seat in the country, with Nikki Kaye winning by just 600 more votes than Jacinda Ardern.
