Key win buoys Oz marriage advocates

Mon 22 Sep 2014 In: International News View at NDHA

Rodney Croome Australian marriage equality advocates believe the re-election of John Key will encourage supporters of same-sex marriage within the Australian Coalition. They point out Key allowed National MPs a conscience vote on the issue last year, enabling it to pass, and voted for the reform himself. "John Key's re-election with a stronger majority shows that conservatives who lead on marriage equality are rewarded by the electorate,” says Australian Marriage Equality national director Rodney Croome. "Supporters of marriage equality in the federal Coalition should take heart from John Key's victory and press ahead to a free vote on the issue."
