Kaitaia accused remanded in custody

A Kaitaia man accused of sexual offences at his lodge has been remanded in custody after appearing in court. A 56-year-old Kaitaia man has been remanded in custody in relation to sexual offence charges. Michael Harris, 56, faces a number of charges including indecent assault, relating to 16 alleged victims – all male and aged between 18 and 25. After appearing in Kaitaia District Court yesterday he was remanded in custody to appear again in court on 23 October. Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston says police are continuing to work through a large amount of information and are speaking to several potential victims.
