GALS have a ball in Dublin

Tue 2 Sep 2014 In: Our Communities View at NDHA

Twenty five members of Auckland's Gay and Lesbian Singers have recently returned from Dublin where they participated in a huge queer singing festival, Various Voices. They were one of over 80 gay choirs from Europe and further afield, 2200 GLBT singers in total, who gathered for five days in Dublin. GALS performed on the main auditorium stage featuring songs all with a NZ connection. The group also did a public performance at Dublin's City Hall, a beautiful 1770s building next to Dublin Castle, as well as a bit of pub singing! As well as good singing, the choir made an impression with striking rainbow fern t-shirts, printed with assistance from a GABA Charitable Trust grant. GALS travellers spent extra time in Europe meandering home by various routes and are now all back with the remainder of the choir getting ready for the next concert in November.
