The conditions are fine, clear and calm on the slopes for Gay Ski Week, while last night’s sold-out opening party was at the more raucous end of the scale. Akira Le Fevre is in Queenstown representing Love Your Condom (LYC), and last night took alter ego Little Miss Cinnamon to the opening event. There was a crowd of about 300 people for the party, hosted by More FM at The Find. "Last night was a fabulous start to the most glam week of the year here in Queenstown,” Le Fevre says. “So great to see old friends and make some new and to help promote LYC over what I'm sure will be an extremely busy week.” Tonight there is a Gaydar Strip Night at Vinyl Underground, while Gaydar Girls will be held at Blue Kanu. Family Bar’s B Word has sold out and Gay Ski Week organiser Sally Whitewoods is looking into more people can be “squashed in” to the Rydges Hotel. Event info here As for the slopes, Gay Ski Week supporter Cardrona Alpine Resort says the “current run of incredible bluebird days is set to continue”. It advises “a lathering of sunscreen as light winds and glorious sunshine is the most likely outcome for the day.” Having a blast: Aaron Comis Aaron Comis from Christchurch is at Cardrona today and says the weather is "stunning". “We’re probably going to do an undie run further in the week. That’ll be some fun. Might wait till a quieter day. It’s a little bit busy today.” Comis is hanging out with a mixture of New Zealanders and Australians and all are already having a ball. He says rainbow flags are everywhere and Queenstown is embracing the event. He adds organiser Sally Whitewoods has done an amazing job. “Everything’s running like clockwork.” He says the party last night was very busy and he expects a few people will have “very sore heads today”. The word is people are deciding last minute to pop down to Queenstown and the closing party next Saturday is expected to be huge. MetService says today will remain fine, with fog tonight. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be mainly fine, also with some fog in the small hours. There will be high cloud and some rain about the headwaters on Wednesday and Thursday.
