The mighty Falcon haka. All pictures: Leif Wauters Game day one of the Bingham Cup saw some of the hardest rain of the week, quickly transforming the fields at Woollahra Colleagues to moulded mud with game after hard-played game. This didn’t stop the NZ Falcons from taking a win against the Manchester Village Spartans at their first game of the tournament. The 9am start was quickly marred by wave after wet wave from above, although nothing would stop the Falcons from their 22 to 0 victory with successful tries by players including Andrew and Jay. The game also saw the team's first major casualty of two broken ribs for Wellington-based prop Carlos Al-Garcia. After a long, mid-day break they faced their second opponent, the legendary San Francisco Fog, on the same field. Although a close contest that was thankfully blessed with more sun than rain, the Fog pulled out a last second win of 11-8 despite great efforts from the Kiwis and another well-played try by Jay. Stay tuned for more updates after the Falcons face their second day of games starting with the Brisbane Hustlers at 9:50 am local Keep an eye on our scene pics section for more images from today's play.
