TVNZ will offer both the first and second seasons of Orange is the New Black on demand from Monday. The hit Netflix prison show features an array of lesbian and bisexual characters, and trans actress Laverne Cox playing a transgender prisoner. The first season was screened on TV2. When the second season was released in the US in June many New Zealand fans found ways to watch it. TVNZ is releasing the two series Netflix style as a ‘box set’ saying fans can settle in for a marathon viewing session. It will be available for the month of September. "Lots of our viewers want to watch shows on their own schedule - so it’s fantastic to be able to offer Kiwis even more choice with free and full access ondemand to one of TV’s most talked about shows," says TVNZ’s GM Ondemand Jason Foden. "We’re excited to be the first in New Zealand to offer viewers both seasons of Orange is the New Black in one hit. We’ve had a huge response since we ramped up our release of key shows ‘First and Fast’ on TVNZ Ondemand this year so we expect this will also go down really well with audiences." Season 3 is scheduled to be released by Netflix in June 2015.
