A new study shows lesbians are significantly more likely to orgasm during sex than straight or bisexual women, while women overall have more varied and less predictable orgasms. The Indiana University research, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, looks at orgasm frequency and type. The answers it bases its findings on are from a survey subsample of nearly 3,000 single Americans, in an internet questionnaire. There was little difference for gay and straight men – straight men reported an 85.5 percent orgasm rate, while for gay men it was 84.7 percent. Bisexual men were at 77.6 percent. For women, heterosexual women reported having orgasms 61.6 percent of the time and bisexual women reported 58 percent. For lesbians, it was 74.7 percent. Researchers say findings suggest that “women, regardless of sexual orientation, have less predictable, more varied orgasm experiences than do men,” and that “for women, but not men, the likelihood of orgasm varies with sexual orientation.” They believe lesbians could be more likely to have orgasms than straight or bisexual women because of the length of sexual encounters, or “lesbian women are more comfortable and familiar with the female body and thus, on average, are better able to induce orgasm in their female partners.”
