Hate church may picket Williams' funeral

Sun 17 Aug 2014 In: International News

Church members promote their message Members of the hate-fueled and anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church in the USA are planning to picket the funeral of actor Robin Williams, apparently due to his portraying a gay man in the movie The Birdcage. Williams committed suicide late last week after struggling with depression for many years and facing difficulties in his private life. The church has tweeted: Westboro  Baptist Church hopes to preach in lawful proximity to Robin Williams' funeral to warn the living: Repent or likewise perish. The church consists mainly of one extended family and members travel throughout the USA picketing funerals of gay men and those who favour equality for gays, displaying to grieving family and friends banners with slogans such as "God Hates Fags." It also claims American military casualties in the middle east are their god's punishment for the USA's increasing relaxation of anti-gay social mores. Details of Williams' funeral have yet to be made public but it is understood his family are planning a small and low-key funeral.
