Mr Gay New Zealand Troy Williams will be given a toga-style send-off tonight, in a farewell event which will also raise cash for Body Positive. Williams will defend the title New Zealand has held for two years running at the Mr Gay World competition in Rome from 25-31 August. “The competition schedule looks pretty intense with seven days of non-stop activities, and from what I can tell the competition this year is tougher than ever before,” Williams says. “That said, I am very much forward to the challenge that lies ahead and will hopefully represent New Zealand well.” He says preparations have gone well, “Thanks in large part to the help and support I have received from many people out in the community. “Big thanks have to go to NZAF who are helping me put together an awesome national costume and the team at Wireless Nation who have been amazingly supportive all year.” Williams says he loves a dress-up party and is keen to see what costumes people come up with tonight. He’s expressed thanks to Legend for hosting the event. “And in particular for agreeing to donate $2 from every cocktail to Body Positive - so hope to see as many people as possible come along and say ‘salute’.” One Night in Rome 10PM, Legend, K’ Rd
