Gay news and politics junkie Dan Lake, better known as Dan News, has excitedly launched a new weekly online political show via 3news.co.nz. Hosted by Tova O’Brien, the programme aims to educate and entertain an audience that may have so far been avoiding politics all together. The latest stats show 210,000 under 30s aren't even enrolled to vote. Lake, who is the show’s producer, says he wants to get more people involved in political discussion. “I think there are a lot of people who avoid politics because they are afraid to admit they don’t understand some of the basics. My hope is that this show can help change that and its audience can get a bit of education as well as some entertainment” In the first episode which is online this morning, Lake talks to Conservative Party Leader Colin Craig about why he chose to get in to politics and why he thinks people should care about what happens in parliament. Watch it here There’s also a history flashback to the moment New Zealand got its first female Prime Minister, and a lesson in the basics of MMP. Let’s Get Political will be online every Friday until the general election and can be viewed here You can also join the discussion on Twitter with @3Politics or @LGPNZ.
