Joan Armatrading will perform three ‘intimate’ shows in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch in her final ever world tour in December. The acclaimed musician has been touring for 42 years, and while she will still do the odd show, this will be her final world tour. “I will never retire but this will be the last major tour that I will undertake. For the first time these concerts will be me solo on stage playing the guitar, piano and singing. I want these concerts to be a special lively interactive one to one experience. “I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience.” She’s promising to take fans on a “musical voyage” spanning her entire career. While Armatrading has kept her personal life private, she and partner Maggie Butler celebrated a civil partnership in 2011, in the Shetland Isles. Her poignant 1989 song The Weakness in Me is regarded as a lesbian anthem. Tickets go on sale at midday on Monday.
