Fri 1 Aug 2014 In: International News View at NDHA

The Ugandan Constitutional Court has ruled the nation's anti-gay law is null and void on the ground it was passed in parliament without the necessary quorum of lawmakers. The law imposed lifetime prison sentences 'aggravated homosexuality' and outlawed the “promotion of homosexuality”. The court was packed for the decision (pic via Twitter) Gay rights groups who led the charge are tweeting "justice prevailed", "we are now legal" and "we won". Lgbti groups say the law had led to increased arrests, assaults, harassment of lgbti people in Uganda. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International say in a report that at least one transgender person has been murdered since the law was passed.
