Claudette Hauiti talking to media at Parliament Departing National MP Claudette Hauiti is facing fresh criticism over revelations she ranks among the highest spending MPs in Parliament over the last quarter. She announced she was leaving politics following a brief career as a list MP, after National made it clear she would have a low position on the list due to mis-spending on her Parliamentary charge card. She’d also hired her own wife in her electorate office, and said she hadn’t realised it was against the rules. It’s now been revealed she spent $30,824 on travel and accommodation from April to June. Other Auckland-based National backbenchers spent between $15,000 and $20,000.
