Same-sex sniff-dating party planned

Sat 26 Jul 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

People looking for love will be asked to bring a t-shirt soaked in their scent to an upcoming gay and lesbian dating event with a difference. After holding the first New Zealand 'Pheremone Party, dating site Find Someone says a version for people who are attracted to people of the same sex is on the way. No date appears to have been set just yet. The concept was invented in New York and has made its way across the US and UK, before its debut downunder. Head of FindSomeone Lou Compagnone says it's a dating concept which "starts with pure chemistry". "The idea is for participants to wear a t-shirt overnight for three nights so it's well and truly soaked in pheromones, then pop it in a bag and bring it along to the party," she says. "From there it's all about finding a scent you like, and getting acquainted with the t-shirt's owner." Compagnone says "sniffing your way to love" is not a silver bullet, but is a bit of fun for daters keen to try something a bit different. "It's an interesting and out-of-the-box way to break the ice when meeting someone new." How it works: Guests are asked to sleep in a cotton tshirt for 3 nights in a row to capture their odor print and bring this in a zip-lock bag to the party. Bags are labeled pink for girls, blue for boys. They bags are assigned a number. Only the guest knows what their shirt's number is. Bags are placed on a table. Guests smell the bags at their leisure throughout the party. If a guest finds the smell attractive, they have their picture taken with the bag at our photo booth. These pictures are projected as a slide show on the wall at the party. If you see a guest you find attractive holding your number, this is the green light to talk to them. At the end of the party, a Facebook album is created and you can tag yourself in the pictures - so if you missed your match at the party, you can still contact them.
