Hauiti is National's Kelston candidate

National list MP Claudette Hauiti has been selected as the party’s candidate in Auckland’s new Kelston electorate. The openly-lesbian TV executive entered Parliament last year, to replace Aaron Gilmore. She will take on former MP Carmel Sepuloni in the electorate, which is expected to be Labour-leaning. National’s Northern Regional Chair Andrew Hunt says the party is determined to run a strong campaign in Kelston. “Claudette quickly proved herself to be an energetic MP when she entered Parliament last year. I’m confident she’ll use her experience to be a strong voice for the local communities,” he says. Hauiti says it’s a privilege to be chosen, and that National is ‘delivering for Auckland families’. “The people of Kelston deserve a representative who understands their needs. I’ll be working hard to be that voice in National at this election so we can keep working for Kelston families.”
