Mon 9 Jun 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

Reeve Carney and Josh Hartnett get it on in Penny Dreadful A new horror series featuring monsters and 19th century fiction characters, including Oscar Wilde creation Dorian Gray, is coming to Sky’s Soho Channel later this month. The series made by gay-friendly network American Showtime has already turned heads with an episode where a mysterious character played by Josh Hartnett hooks up with Gray, played by Reeve Carney. Lesbian storylines are also expected to be included in the show, which critics have received positively. The show’s creator, John Logan, is openly gay and has explicitly said that he likes horror monsters because of his sexuality, as he told Slate magazine: “I realized what really attracted me to them was the very deep kinship I felt that has to do with growing up as a gay man.” Penny Dreadful will premiere on Sky subscription-only channel Soho on 19 June and screen every Thursday night.
