Auckland to bid for 2016 AsiaPac Outgames

Auckland swimmers at the Darwin games Moves are underway to put together a bid for Auckland to host the 4th Asia Pacific Outgames in 2016. Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association Asia Pacific and Team Auckland Masters Swimmers discussed the idea at the 3rd Asia Pacific Outgames in Darwin in May. A formal expression of interest has been issued and a bid committee has approached 16 sports to take part. It’s also initiated discussions around the human rights conference, the working title for which is “State of the Nations – LGBTI Status in the Asia-Pacific region” and is developing the process for appointment of a board of trustees. A conceptual bid is to be submitted by 30 June, with an aim to hold the events in February 2016 The Gay Auckland Business Association is backing the move, with President Skot Barnett saying Auckland has 20 months to pull this off, “so let’s show off our community, our city and out country at their best”.
