A film which exposes the impact American evangelism has had on gay rights in Uganda has picked up another award at the Documentary Edge Festival. God Loves Uganda’s Roger Ross Williams has won Best International Feature, to add to the Best International Documentary award the film has already won. Williams has dedicated the award to “all the brave souls who worked with me in making God Loves Uganda a reality”. “As a gay man of African descent, it is very difficult to stand up to people who either want to see you behind bars or dead. I thank the 2014 Documentary Edge Festival for recognising that and supporting all the real heroes in this fight against LGBTI injustice in Uganda.” God Loves Uganda screens again at Auckland’s Q Theatre on Monday 2 June at 8.15pm. It’s at Wellington’s Roxy Theatre on Saturday 7 June at 7PM and Sunday 15 June at 8.15PM. Tickets and more info here.
