'Boys' and 'girls' sought for QWU cast

Tue 27 May 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

Cast members from all walks of life are being sought for the return of Queen of the Whole Universe. The charity event is returning to Auckland’s SkyCity Theatre for two shows in November, to mark 30 years of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Creative Director Jonathan Smith says the purpose of QWU is to help raise self-awareness and confidence, HIV education and to raise funds for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Between 2004 and 2012 QWU raised over $210,000 for HIV charities in New Zealand. Smith says cast members do not need any dance experience. “There are no auditions except a simple interview. You can play a boy or a girl but more fun playing the opposite sex.” Cast members need to be at rehearsals every Sunday from 5 October till 23 November, along with some Wednesday night practices, as well as meetings and a technical and dress rehearsals.
