A film about the ‘spiritual virus’ creeping across Uganda has won Best International Film at the Documentary Edge Festival Film Awards in Auckland. God Loves Uganda explores the true influence of the American evangelical movement in Africa through the intersecting arcs of three characters: an American missionary, Uganda’s most anti-gay evangelical minister, and a Ugandan priest and human rights activist. The Documentary Edge Festival judges says it’s an important story with potentially vast consequences, “bravely and well told and unfolded in a non-prejudiced and balanced manner”. God Loves Uganda screens at Auckland’s Q Theatre on Saturday at 6.45PM and Monday at 8.15PM, and at Wellington’s Roxy Cinema on Saturday 7 June at 7PM and Sunday 15 June at 8.15PM.
