Events are being held up and down the country tomorrow to mark anti-bullying initiative Pink Shirt Day. Schools around New Zealand are planning special mufti days and support events, including Bay of Islands College, Rotorua Intermediate, Rotorua Lakes High School, Marlborough Boys' College, Newtown School and Westlake Girls High School. In Christchurch, gay youth group Q-topia will make a splash once again with its annual Pink Walk through Riccarton Mall at 7PM. All are welcome to join in. A Pink Shirt Day Art Exhibition is also being held at Silo 6, Silo Park, Wynyard Quarter, in Auckland, while the Out Takes Film Festival will present a special short-film line-up at Rialto at 6.50PM. The concept comes from Canada, when a young boy at a school in Nova Scotia got bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school and some older students decided to show their support of him and opposition to bullying. They bought 50 pink shirts and distributed them to other students in the school to demonstrate their stand, and Pink Shirt Day has now spread across Canada and into other countries such as New Zealand.
