The recipients of Auckland Council’s first ever Rainbow Door Fund are wide-ranging, from uniforms for a gay swimming team to glbti-friendly training resources aged residential care staff. The Community Development and Safety Committee has allocated one-off grants of up to $500 for projects which “aim to improve people’s wellbeing and safety and/or celebrate and make more visible the Rainbow Community’s artistic and cultural diversity”. It’s a result of the advocacy work of a group which acts as a type of buffer between the Council and the glbti community, the Rainbow Door. The recipients of the Rainbow Door Fund: Gender Diversity Info and Advocacy Pack A resource which can be used to advocate for changes around access to safe and appropriate health care for gender diverse people in Auckland (but the resource will be applicable nationally). Poly Panel, Discussions around Queer Polyamory A one day event exploring a framework of ethical, healthy polyamory relationships. The Great Queer Skill Share An intergenerational diverse skill sharing gathering which takes place once a month. Breaking Boundaries – Outreach Breaking Boundaries is an online queer support forum, aiming to create a safe and supportive community for Kiwis, accessible from almost anywhere. Tamaki Makaurau Lesbian Newsletter Outreach Project The Tamaki Makaurau Lesbian Newsletter has been here for over 20 years: it's a print, A4, 12-page, monthly publication for women-loving women with a current readership of 2-3,000. Its project is to extend and diversify its readership. Team Auckland Master Swimmers uniform Auckland Master Swimmers (TAMS) is a LGBT community group that has been operating in Auckland for more than 20 years. They compete at a number of events in Auckland and around the country. Funding was used for uniforms to be used at these events. PFLAG Project PFLAG Project is a pamphlet with the resources and historical and practical information for parents. This is to support individuals and whanau to combating isolation and provide better support for parent’s sexuality and gender diverse people and to stop negative impacts discrimination and ignorance. Silent Gays On-line service education and info Silent Gays, is a service set up to help lgbt people hidden and suffering in the church and religious systems. It provides a website, Facebook page and meetings designed to offer confidential help and resources specifically targeted to their needs. Trans Support Group A support group is for trans women 35 plus, it is designed to create a safe and validating space. Silver Rainbow Run out of the University of Auckland, the project has been funded by the Rule Foundation through three stages and aims to provide training resources for staff in aged residential care settings on caring for lesbian, gay and bisexual elders. LYC Chargers Touch Football team A team within the gay community that fosters camaraderie. It is a safe supportive and friendly environment and the main goal is not to win but to have fun in trying. Intersex Workshop Intersex workshop is about increasing the awareness of intersex community experience and the knowledge of the experiences intersex people face in the rainbow community.
