Fresh look, new staff for RainbowYOUTH

Aych McArdle Rainbow Youth has had a bit of a makeover, with two new staff members and a new logo. The Auckland-based lgbti support and advocacy organisation has hired former Vice-Chairperson of the RainbowYOUTH board, Aych McArdle, as Education Director. A major focus for McArdle will be developing RainbowYOUTH’s popular Sexuality and Gender Identity Workshops. “I'm thrilled to be joining the staff team at RainbowYOUTH,” McArdle says. “I'm looking forward to working alongside our education team making a difference in schools and workplaces in Aotearoa.” Tanu Gago Tanu Gago has been hired as the new Community Engagement Coordinator, working to create a stronger presence in the wider Auckland community. “I'm excited by such a passionate team of people. I look forward to joining in on some of the great work that RainbowYOUTH are known for and look forward to engaging our Pasefika youth,” Gago says. The two new positions come after former Education Coordinator Kestin Stewart stepped down from his role. General Manager Duncan Matthews is excited to have the pair on board. “Both bring a large wealth of knowledge, experience and drive to make things better for queer and trans young people in Aotearoa.” A new look The organisation has also changed the writing of its name from Rainbow Youth to RainbowYOUTH and is using a new logo, which was created by two young members: Educators needed RainbowYOUTH is also moving to a ‘casual educator model’, increasing its capacity to deliver its education package. It’s asking anyone interested in becoming an educator to step up. The contracts will be casual, and depending on the person’s availability the role will require between zero and 20 hours per week. Educators must be available for an initial training weekend of 14 June and for three monthly supervision meetings. The role includes going into schools and other organisations to deliver Education Workshops on sexuality and gender identity.
