GALS to celebrate all things Kiwi in 2014

Auckland’s Gay and Lesbian Singers (GALS) will celebrate their 22nd year with a Made in New Zealand concert, and a trip to Dublin. A Made in New Zealand matinee will be held at 3.30PM on Saturday 24 May, followed by an evening concert at 7.30PM. Made in New Zealand will pay homage to the progress that the country has made in recent years to in equality for same sex couples. A celebration of all things Kiwi, the programme consists of music by New Zealand composers and arrangers, alongside other material with a strong New Zealand connection. Sharing the stage with GALS, Next Offramp vocal group will lend their voices as part of a mini-concert within a concert. There will also be a feature from current Mr Gay New Zealand Troy Williams. Formed in 1992, the non-auditioned LGBT community choir was the first established choir of its kind in New Zealand. GALS now boasts about 70 active members ranging in age from 18 to over 80. As a community choir, GALS is committed to supporting the community, and had a strong presence at Auckland Pride this year - including the opening Pride Gala at Q Theatre, a free mini concert at the Auckland Art Gallery and in the Pride Parade itself. A number of GALS members and supporters are heading off to Dublin to perform in the internationally acclaimed Various Voices concerts this year, joining more than 80 choirs from around the globe in a massive performance at the historic Dublin Castle. GALS is also developing a new website, expanding its Facebook group and has set up an Instagram page (instagalsakl). Made in New Zealand 24th May 2014 Matinee 3.30pm.
