Trans model to compete in final tonight

Fri 2 May 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News

Brosnahan impressing in the heats Transgender modelling hopeful Amy Brosnahan will tonight compete in the national final of the Battle of the Babes in Auckland. The 18-year-old made it into the final after competing in a heat last month. Organisers at one stage told her she couldn’t take part because she was transgender, but quickly changed their minds after some thought. They said they hadn’t known how to handle the situation, but Brosnahan says ultimately everyone was welcoming at her heat. Friends will be out to support her at the final at the Juice Bar in Parnell tonight. The winner will represent New Zealand at the world final in Hong Kong in August. Between the heat and the final, Brosnahan has been signed by a talent agency. She's also pulled out of a bikini competition she was told she could win because she was transgender. That meant she could not represent New Zealand on the world stage due to the contest's international rules. Saturday update: Brosnahan didn't make it into the top ten, but friends and supporters say they are incredibly proud of her efforts.
