Life in jail for gay-hating killer mother

Mon 21 Apr 2014 In: International News

Jessica Dutro An American mother who beat her four-year-old son to death because he ‘walked and talked gay’ will spend at least 25 years behind bars. Oregon woman Jessica Dutro, 25, has been convicted of the murder of Zachary Dutro-Burgess. Her 24-year-old boyfriend Brian Canady has been sentenced to 12 and a half years’ prison, after admitting first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault, and testifying against Dutro. The court heard she’d written to Canady on Facebook complaining her son might be gay, as he “walks and talks like it. Ugh.” She told her boyfriend he would have to “work on” Zachary “big time”. Prosecutors said the toddler died of blunt-force trauma to his abdomen and delay in medical treatment. “Parents are supposed to protect their kids. And you were the most dangerous thing in your kids' lives,” Judge Don Letourneau told Dutro as he jailed her for life, with a minimum of 25 years.
