Founder of the ‘God hates fags’ preaching Westboro Baptist Church Fred Phelps has died. The vociferously anti-gay church says in a post on its website that he has “Gone The Way of All Flesh, And Has Died on March 19, 2014”. A few days ago his estranged son Nate Phelps reported that his father had been excommunicated from the sect in August 2013 and was residing in Topeka's Midland Hospice. “I'm not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made," Nate Phelps wrote. “I feel sad for all the hurt he's caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And I'm bitterly angry that my family is blocking the family members who left from seeing him, and saying their good-byes.” Apparently, his daughter now runs the church. The extremist church is often in the headlines for its protests at the funerals of glbti people and slain soldiers. Phelps was 84. Read Craig Young’s obituary here
