Alison Bechdel, the creator of the brilliant cartoon strip Dykes to Watch Out For, will round out her New Zealand trip with a ‘night of fun, insight and humour’ in Auckland on Sunday. Auckland Women’s Centre has organised the event, which will be held at the Freeman’s Bay Community Centre from 7PM. It comes hot on the heels of Bechdel’s appearances at the New Zealand Festival’s Writers Week in Wellington. Aside from Dykes to Watch Out For, she has also created two acclaimed memoirs Fun Home and Are You My Mother? Gender and sexual identity are a large part of the core message of her work. Tickets are $25 from The Women's Bookshop on Ponsonby Rd or the Auckland Women's Centre at 4 Warnock Street, Grey Lynn.
