Zimbabwe police arrest gay leaders

Thu 13 Mar 2014 In: International News

Zimbabwe police have raided a hotel conference and arrested two gay community leaders. The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) were holding a media training course for 20 people at the Bronte Hotel in Harare on Wednesday. Police arrested GALZ volunteer youth coordinator Natasha Dowell and training facilitator Tawanda Maguze. They were accused of convening a public meeting without authority from the Zimbabwe Republic Police. Dowell was charged, while Maguze was released. GALZ says the remaining eighteen training participants had their details recorded and were asked to remain behind at the venue, before eventually being allowed to leave.
