Colin Craig recently quoted entirely non-existent figures about how many New Zealanders identify as gay, has told the world being gay is ‘abnormal’ and a ‘choice’, and says he could be gay if he wanted to. Colin Craig is delaying his court action over Russel Norman's comments about his views on gay people, and says that’s because it will take too long and cost too much to go through all his emails and correspondence on the subject. He is pressing ahead with action over the Green Party co-leader's comment at the Big Gay Out that Craig believes 'women belong in the kitchen' in the hope splitting the claim into two parts will fast-track a court hearing. “After extensive discussion and advice from my legal team, I’ve decided to proceed immediately against Mr Norman regarding his claims about the place of women,” Craig says. “Not only were Mr Norman’s comments entirely untrue, but they demonstrated a cavalier and reckless disregard for the truth," he states. The Conservative Party leader says he’s holding off on action over Norman’s assertion he believes ‘gays belong in the closet’ because it would take too long to go through all his emails and correspondence on the issue. “Given the extensive debate around the redefinition of marriage, this is many hundreds, if not thousands of documents, and would result in prohibitive costs and time delays,” he says. “It is hoped by breaking the case into two stages, that a declaration of defamation may be obtained prior to the election this year.” The press release entitled “Craig Continues Push for Honesty” comes from the political wannabe who recently quoted entirely non-existent figures about how many New Zealanders identify as gay, has told the world being gay is ‘abnormal’ and a ‘choice’, and says he could be gay if he wanted to.
