Thu 27 Feb 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Tony Ryall In an interview more about his colourful shirts and ties than retiring from Parliament, health minister Tony Ryall has strongly refuted a suggestion he is said by some to be gay. Referring to Ryall as a colourful character and giving a quick summary of his 25-year parliamentary career, Prime News political reporter Barry Soper this evening claimed to Ryall that some people think he is gay. Soper is known for his agressive and sometimes provocative quetioning of politicians. However, political figures in New Zealand are rarely confronted about aspects of their sexuality unless it has become a controversial issue or is on the public record. Nonsense," replied Ryall after a chuckle. Soper says Ryall told him any "gay" suggestions are because "people like to throw stones."
