The NZ Falcons are heading into their first training session of a big season pumped by their participation in the Auckland Pride Parade. The gay-friendly rugby team joined the float of one of its supporters LYC on Saturday. "The guys had a blast with the LYC crew,” says club President Blair Dickman. “Some were up the front partying down with glow sticks and the rest of the squad ran lineout drills in the rear as we moved along Ponsonby Road. The crowd response was overwhelming and incredibly supportive. Next year we plan to be back bigger and better." The Falcons had a successful muster in January and this coming Sunday is the first training session for 2014. New players are still being welcomed and encouraged to join and give it a go, whether they are new to rugby or have experience. All levels are being catered for. In late August the NZ Falcons will travel to Sydney for the Bingham Cup, the gay version of the Rugby World Cup. The team is likely to play a number of games from May onwards in the lead up to the tournament. Prospective players can visit the Falcons’ Facebook page and register for training under the events section. Supporters can also like the page to stay up to date with the action.
