Ponsonby Road from the Hopetoun corner 10.00AM: Pride Parade day has dawned overcast and wet in Auckland but the parade's director says the show will go on, "rain or shine." Currently there is a dense low cloud over the city with bands of light rain moving from north to south. There is no wind but humidity is high at 75% with a temperature of 20C and the sun is occasionally brightening up an otherwise damp scene. Parade director Richard Taki, currently in a meeting with representatives of parade participants, says his weather forecasters are predicting the rain will be over and the skies clearing by late afternoon, well in advance of the 7pm parade start time. Western Park He says there are contingency plans in place to deal with inclement weather and he will be reminding those on floats how to deal with wet surfaces if necessary. Meanwhile, barricades line the sides of balloon-festooned Ponsonby Road and the marquees are going up for the VIP area in Western Park. Transport parking wardens and towing companies are doing a roaring trade taking away cars parked overnight on side streets and not yet cleared from the parade marshaling areas.
