Fri 21 Feb 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Amnesty International in last year's Pride Parade Amnesty International will tell the story of its work on lgbti issues through the decades at tomorrow’s Auckland Pride Parade. The global human rights advocate will have a big group of supporters walking down Ponsonby Rd. With the Parade theme being ‘Time’, Amnesty International will use costumes, music and banners to show how it’s gone into bat for our community. “Amnesty International believes that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be able to enjoy the full range of human rights, without exception,” New Zealand spokeswoman Anita Harvey says. “Unfortunately in many countries, every day, sexual orientation or gender identity leads to abuse in the form of discrimination, violence, imprisonment, torture, or even execution. “By highlighting instances of abuse against lgbti individuals around the world, by taking part in events such as Pride Parade, Amnesty hopes to protect the dignity of all lgbti people. Because Love is a Human Right!”
