As Uganda is on the cusp of ratifying viciously homophobic legislation, its Minister for Ethics and Integrity has claimed the nation is tolerant of gay people as it is "not slaughtering them". The comments come as President Yoweri Museveni has signalled he will sign a law which while allow anyone having gay sex to be jailed for 14 years for a first offence, and for life if they are convicted again. The nation’s for Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo says he thinks gay people can be ‘helped to come out of’ what he calls an ‘unfortunate situation’. "It's like a drug addict. Drug addiction is not an innate situation, it is acquired. But they can be transformed and become better,” he rambles. "So we are saying anybody found committing this incredible and abominable act should be checked and isolated from society. "If you are found practising it, we shall take you to a cell."
