Pro-glbti framework going to Akl Council

Wed 19 Feb 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A framework designed to make Auckland “the most liveable city for rainbow communities” is being put to an Auckland Council committee for endorsement this morning. The Community Development and Safety Committee has been put together as a result of hui and consultation by a reference group set up in 2010, which is known as the ‘Rainbow Door’. It’s led by Council staffer and community advocate Cissy Rock, who will ask for the report to be endorsed. Trevor Easton from OUTLine will also speak to the Committee. The framework provides a starting point for the Council and the community to align priorities for creating positive social change, as identified by rainbow communities. The endorsed framework will be used to shape and influence community and council projects as well as shared initiatives. It asks for: Secure commitment from council to improve representation and visibility of rainbow communities in council publicity and campaigns. Establish a small Rainbow Door fund for rainbow communities to access to take actions that support the framework. (This has already been achieved, GayNZ.com Daily News will have more soon). Work across rainbow/rainbow friendly community organisations to identify ways to work together. Through the Rainbow Door, establish a working group to explore options for rainbow physical space and provide recommendations back to the community. Create a social media campaign that focuses on “allies” supporting positive change.
