Carlson has jokingly blamed Louisa Wall for her engagement New Zealand’s favourite ‘lesbetarian’ comedian Urzila Carlson is engaged and planning a November wedding. The queen of hilarity shared her news with community members who were gathered at the launch of the Rainbow Tick initiative in Auckland last night. Carlson and fiancee Julie have been together six years, or “25 years in the straight world” and have a nine-month-old daughter. She had the room erupting in fits of chuckles when she explained how she’d previously managed to evade her partner’s desire to get hitched by saying “we can’t it’s illegal”. Pointing to marriage equality championing Labour MP Louisa Wall, she blared “It’s your fault! You’re paying for the wedding!” leading to more side-splitting laughter. Carlson photo-bombing Megan Cunningham-Adams and Jan Logie Carlson joked the news would “be on GayNZ.com tomorrow” and we didn’t want to disappoint her. Congratulations Urzila and Julie!
