Aotea Centre to get the rainbow treatment

Tue 18 Feb 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The Aotea Centre will be a bit more dressed up tonight Auckland is about to be even more dressed up for Pride, with rainbow flags to soon line the Aotea Centre. It’s a result of Auckland City Councillor Cathy Casey asking whether a rainbow flag could be flown from the Town Hall. “I have just had fantastic news from Paul Brewer of Regional Facilities Auckland,” she’s announced on Facebook. “It seems that only the New Zealand flag can be flown from the Town Hall but by the end of today, RFA are hoping to have 14 rainbow flags along the Aotea Centre roof line and one rainbow flag below next to the Auckland Council and New Zealand flags!” Casey says Brewer has also pledged Regional Facilities Auckland will acknowledge the Auckland Pride Festival in this way every year from now on. The flags will add to banners previewing the Pride Parade on Ponsonby Rd and a number of city landmarks being dolled up with rainbow lights.
