Body Positive is hoping for a rush of last minute ticket sales for its fundraising screening of Oscar-nominated film Dallas Buyers Club tonight. There has been a slow uptake of tickets so far for the Auckland Pride Festival charity event at Academy Cinemas tonight. Set in 1985, Dallas Buyers Club tells the true-life story of Ron Woodroof, a homophobic rodeo rider who works around the system to help HIV positive patients get the medication they need, after he is himself diagnosed with the disease. With transgender AIDS patient, Rayon, he establishes a ‘buyers club’ where members pay monthly dues and gain access to medications.
