GayNZ.com’s Facebook page has been announced as a finalist for New Zealand’s ‘favourite social networking page’, alongside some of the nation's major and most iconic Kiwi brands. It’s up against pages for the All Blacks, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and the Prime Minister in the ESET NetGuide Web Awards. Announcement of the finalists comes after more than 290,000 public votes were cast across 26 categories. "We're thrilled to be amongst the finalists, especially as we didn't know until the announcement that we were in the running and had not mounted any kind of campaign to get votes," says Jay Bennie, who, along with Neil Gibb, is a co-publisher of GayNZ.com. "Our Facebook presence is managed and overseen by our senior writer, Jacqui Stanford, so our being a finalist is specifically a tribute to her skills and commitment." Other finalists across the range of other categories in the awards include TradeMe, NZ Dating, TVNZ, TV3, Telecom, Vodafone, Starship Hospital, The Warehouse, Air New Zealand and several of the major trading banks such as the ANZ and ASB. The winners of each category will be announced on 20 February at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland. Fittingly, the host for the night will be GayNZ.com friend, comedian Urzila Carlson.
