More than 1,000 readying to be in Parade

Last year the Dykes on Bikes were official helpers, this year they will be in the parade Dykes on Bikes will rev up the crowd up at a packed 2014 Auckland Pride Parade. The second edition of the event will be held at night, and will have a few more floats than last year with 46 entries now confirmed. Last year there were 40 floats and the Parade was held in the afternoon. Parade Director Richard Taki says the parade will be around 90 minutes long, with 1,100 participants supported by more than 100 volunteers. Community groups who will take part include Body Positive, GenderBridge, the Charlotte Museum Trust, Rainbow Youth, the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and its offshoot Love Your Condom. Rainbow Families will march, there will be a Pasifika LGBTQI Youth float while Unitec and Auckland and Waikato UniQ will be represented. There will also be a taste of ‘Rainbow Waiheke’, wakeboarders, swimmers, roller derby teams, salsa dancers, drag kings and Silo Theatre’s Angels in America. The Greens, Rainbow Labour and Auckland Council are taking part too, as is the Israel Embassy. Also among the entries this year are the New Zealand Police Diversity Liaison Officers, St John Ambulance representatives and the New Zealand Defence Force’s OverWatch support group. The Auckland Pride Parade is on Saturday 22 February from 7PM down Ponsonby Rd. Entry is free, or you can enjoy it from GABA's Rainbow Island Glamzone by buying tickets here
